Grant will help residents fix up Middleburgh homes

article Schenectady Gazette 8-2-01

MIDDLEBURGH - A $400,000 state grant will help residents rehabilitate about 19 homes in the town of Middleburgh.

Gov. George Pataki joined other Republicans at the Middleburgh school on Sunday to announce the funding, which will come from the community development block grant program of the state Office for Small Cities, according to the governor's Web site.

The town will use the funds to provide direct grants of up to $20,000 to 19 Middleburgh homeowners, according to the governor's office.

First priority will be given to homes needing work to eliminate health and safety hazards and to satisfy local building codes.

First-priority items will include installing septic systems, replacing unsafe wiring, floors, steps, roofing and installing heating systems, according to the governor's office.

The governor is expecting to release an additional $35 million in CDBG awards throughout the state this summer.
